John H. Mahon, M.D.

John H. Mahon, M.D. is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has earned the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand, and is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Dr. Mahon comes to Fort Collins from South Bend, Indiana, where he was in private practice since 1990. During that time he served as the hand surgery consultant to the varsity athletics program at the University of Notre Dame, and developed the hand surgery program at the South Bend Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Clinic. He has also served as an instructor at the Indiana University Medical School’s upper extremity anatomy course, and with the South Bend Family Practice residency programs.
Dr. Mahon has presented papers to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and to local and national Hand Societies. He has been published in the Journal of Hand Surgery, Current Opinions in Orthopedic Surgery, and the Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics. He has served on the Self-Assessment Examination Committee of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, as well as the Computer Committee and the New Members Committee. Dr. Mahon has served on the faculty at national and local instructional courses in hand surgery, and is an active fellow in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Rocky Mountain Hand Society, and the Robert E. Carroll Hand Club. Dr. Mahon has extensive experience with all disorders of the hand and wrist, and can be reached for a consultation through the Northern Colorado Hand & Wrist Center, PC.
An avid cyclist, Dr. Mahon has earned the coveted “buckle” for finishing the Leadville 100 mountain bike race in under 12 hours, is participating in the 18 Hours of Fruita race for the first time this year, and regularly competes in other state and regional cycling competitions. He is a nationally ranked Scrabble player who, along with his wife, has five grown children living across the United States.
